Since the early 20th century, the Diocese of Quilon has been steadfast in its mission to promote education—not just within the Catholic community, but across all segments of society. With a vision rooted in inclusivity and social advancement, the Diocese laid the foundation for numerous religious and educational institutions. Following the formation of the new Dioceses of Kottar, Trivandrum, and Punalur from the original territory of the Diocese of Quilon, many institutions were transferred to these newly established jurisdictions. At that time, Quilon Diocese administered 132 vernacular primary schools, most of which were later integrated into the Dioceses of Kottar and Trivandrum. Despite this reorganization, the Diocese of Quilon continued its pioneering role in education by establishing a network of institutions including primary and high schools (both English and Malayalam medium), higher secondary schools in both aided and unaided sectors, Fatima Mata National College, and Karmela Rani Training College. These efforts were driven by the overarching goal of using education as a powerful tool for the social upliftment of marginalized and underprivileged communities.
